Lombard arm harness, reconstruction from the arm harness of the headstone of the Georg von Waldburg.
Description
Lombard arm harness belonged to the Georg von Waldburg (1405-1467) – commander, responsible for the suppression of the Peasant’s War. He destroyed around 3000 rebels near Böblingen.
While recreating this arm protection we used an additional info about the arm harness, as the details on the headstone are barely visible. The characteristic feature of this harness is large plates which are combined smoothly and provide great mobility. Such armor could only be afforded by the rich folk which of course fought on the horse. Which is why there was a removable strengthening. for example, the elbow on the arms and additional plates on the shoulders. Such details could withstand blows from the heavy rider and raise the chances of survival. This was a high-tech production for the time.
This is one of the options of arm harness which will be great for reenactment, jousting and historical medieval fencing. These Lombard arms is one of the examples which we used to develop plate protection for sports “Tristan”.
